How often should I have my eyes examined?

Alliance Eye Doctors: Professional Eye Care in Regina & Saskatoon

Alliance Eye Doctors provides quality eye care for patients in Saskatoon, Regina and surrounding areas of Saskatchewan. We offer a full range of vision services for your eye health needs, including comprehensive eye examinations for both children and adults. Our skilled optometrists can examine your eyes for diseases such as glaucoma and cataract and provide treatments for a wide range of eye conditions.

The eye examination includes screening with diagnostic equipment.

Optical coherence tomography (OCT) is a non-invasive imaging test that uses light waves to take cross-section pictures of your retina, the light-sensitive tissue lining the back of the eye. With OCT, each of the retina’s distinctive layers can be seen, allowing your optometrist to map and measure their thickness. These measurements help with early detection, diagnosis and treatment guidance for retinal diseases and conditions, including age-related macular degeneration and, diabetic eye disease, among others.

In addition, OCT is often used to evaluate disorders of the optic nerve. The optic nerve is made up of many nerve fibers and sends signals from your retina to your brain, where these signals are interpreted as the images you see. The OCT exam is helpful in determining changes to the fibers of the optic nerve, such as those caused by glaucoma.

Optomap is an ultra-widefield (UWF™) retinal imaging to enable eyecare professionals to discover, diagnose, document and treat ocular pathology that may first present in the periphery - pathology which may go undetected using traditional examination techniques and equipment. Each image shows more than 80% or 200˚ of the retina in a single capture.
